*Breaktime Outdoors
It's weird to be out here taking a break. This exercise has succeeded in getting me out of my airconditioned apartment even if just for a half hour.I see that squirrels like peanuts. No brainer. My friend Tom, keeps some in his backpack to feed the squirrels in his neighborhood on the walk home from the train. Tom's gone off to smoke away from me and the people eating on the park benches, but before he leaves he tosses out a handful of nuts. The squirrels come out of their hiding spots to scoop them up. A couple of squirrels don't get a peanut of their own but seem satisfied with snatching up acorns.
They're really cute the way they hold the nuts in their front paws and chomp away at the shells to get to the nut meat inside. The ferocity involved in their hunger surprises me. I'd have thought there would be a lot of food for them to eat around here. The woods are pretty thick and there is enough foot traffic and trash that they wouldn't go hungry. Then again, there is hunger here in the city. Why not the squirrels too.
