An Epidemic of Mumps can indicate a situation, illness or event that is affecting a number of people. Contagious, like an illness that is raging through a chain of friends or family, it can affect people on a large scale and may have started with just one person.

This Symbol may be the actual literal spread of disease or can also symbolize news or gossiping of a story that’s gotten completely out of control. This infecting influence could be affecting just you or someone else in the group. Hysterical feelings, things getting out of control, common threads that link people together, infections, curies, discovering the truth of a situation and acting accordingly, viruses, rumours, deprivation, embarassment, impotence. The spread is occuring regardless of whether anybody wants it to. The infection needs to be halted to avoid the spread of upset or fear to anyone involved. Things may become worse before they gets better. There may be a need for some kind of separation or isolation, and then some time for recovery.

At this Full Moon, I stopped off to visit with friends at their home on the Upper East Side. They have a sweet toddler, a veritable cootie factory. After a long visit, I came home with an earful of news of our immediate friends and with a bit of a sour stomach. The sour stomach became three days of nausea, projectile vomiting and cramping diarrhea, chills, fever. I'd had a very busy social weekend planned which came to naught but clutching my bowels in bed.
In our hemisphere, the Eart is experiencing Midwinter. Many people are in close quarters, holed up trying to stay warm in areas that don't have a lot of ventilation. By the end of the week, I had heard that many other people were also sick with the stomach bug. Some of the stories I had heard that night of my visit had made rounds through my friends, some of whom had become upset by some segments of what was being said. Some of the original story mongers went around and made requests to keep what had been shared under wraps to prevent further rumours.

Around the same time, the Federal Reserve slashed a key interest rate by threequarters of a percentage point. That the Fed cut the interest rate to stem panic is a very bold action designed to prevent steep losses in world stock markets from causing an all-out global panic. Epidemic Moon.
